Statement of Payment to Sue Harris for Hire of Slaves and Teams at State Salt Works
This affidavit by A. H. Abney, former agent of the State Military Board at the salt works at Jordan’s Saline, certifies that he paid a Miss Sue Harrison $1800 in Confederate money and 3,200 pounds of salt “for the hire of negroes and teams in the state employ last year.” He has been unable to give her a voucher because “she has gone to her home near Hamburg, Ark.” According to Abney, she left unexpectedly so he was unable to get her forwarding address.
