Letters from Lilly Moore and Maggie Weeks to John C. Moore and William F. Weeks, September 10, 1863
Writing from the “P House,” Lilly and Maggie [M.S.W.] give updates on the area, including the actions of runaway slaves and the efforts to secure some of them in jails in Louisiana. Maggie expresses concerns about another Yankee invasion of the area, which would cut them off entirely from Texas. She also reports that a neighbor’s “negroes give her a great deal of trouble.” She also says that Mr. Moss is not being diligent enough about rounding up “negroes” who are off the plantation.
