John Moore to Allie, August 4, 1863, Weeks Family Papers, Reel 18, Frame 134.pdf
Letter from John Moore to Allie, August 4, 1863
Moore writes Allie from Mansfield about a letter he received from William F. Weeks dated St. Mary, Louisiana, July 20, 1863, stating that he had received his letter of the 7th written from Starrville (also mentioned in a letter he wrote to J.A. Johnson). Weeks reported his plans to depart with his “train of negroes for Texas” the following day. Allie’s mother has not decided whether to leave or not, and doesn’t really have conveyance to carry her anyway. Moore feels responsible for leaving her in place and wishes he had gone to get her sooner, but he had expected it would be easier to go after joining up with William and Alfred.
