John C. Moore to William F. Weeks, June 27, 1864
Moore writes to Weeks about his intention to keep most of his “hand” in Desoto Parish, sending a few back to the Teche to raise a crop if possible there and on the Magill plantation. He is confident that Weeks’s “reasoning in relation to the detail is correct,” but it arrived too late for Moore to act on it, leaving him no choice but to “buy the Bacon & Beef as cheap as posisble and get work for the negroes to pay for them.”
