Certificate for Slaves Hired by William F. Weeks to the Railroad
This certificate, signed by W. W. Morris, General Superintendent for the Texas & New Orleans Railroad, indicated that Weeks and Alfred C. Weeks, his brother, had “sixteen (16) negro male hands between the ages of 17 & 50 years” at work on the railroad. The certificate is countersigned by F. A. Rice, chief of the Labor Bureau, with a note to the effect that these hands will be credited towards the Weeks brothers’ “quota” with the Labor Bureau, headquartered in Houston.
