Richardson was a resident of Van Zandt County, Texas, who enlisted in the 22nd Infantry in Texas but then deserted in Louisiana in 1863. He spent the remainder of the war with his brother-in-law in Clark County, Missouri, but then applied for amnesty in 1865 to return home to Van Zandt and make salt.
